Vodafone stocks advanced 2.11% to 173.95p today

The UK stock markets fell for the first time in three days today to 6,278.28, falling 0.27%, after Bank of England (BoE) announced that it has kept interest rates unchanged at its latest meeting. The BoE maintained the Bank Rate at the record-low level of 0.5% and kept the asset purchase programme unchanged at £375bn, in line with market expectations. The Monetary Policy Committee led by Governor Mervyn King said the target for its bond purchases will remain at £375 billion ($589 billion).

Burberry Group lost the most in three-and-a-half months, sliding 4.6% to 1,364 pence, after replacing its chief financial officer. Vodafone Group, which accounts for 5.4% of the UK stock market, advanced the most in two weeks, rising 2.11% to 173.95 pence, after confirming its previous forecast for full-year profit. TUI Travel surged 1 % after announcing that it expects fiscal-year profit growth at the upper end of its outlook.

Compass Group Plc climbed 1.5% to 777 pence after the world’s largest catering group said revenue rose almost 6% in the fiscal first quarter, beating the average analyst estimate of 5%. Medical technology group Smith & Nephew was flat despite beating forecasts in the fourth quarter; however it said that margins are expected to fall in 2013.

The top ten losers in the UK stock market today are Burberry Group (lon:BRBY) 1,365.00p -4.55%, Vedanta Resources (lon:VED) 1,269.00p -2.23% , Eurasian Natural Resources Corp. (lon:ENRC) 367.70p -2.10%, Randgold Resources Ltd.
